The Aaron Rodgers drama has been on the front burner of the Packers’ offseason. Immediately behind it has been the contract situation of Davante Adams. Adams, a First Team All-Pro last season, is to become a free agent at the end of the 2021 season. At this point in the offseason, many wonder if the Packers will be able to re-sign their best wide receiving threat.
The Reports on Adams
Earlier this week, it was reported that the Packers and Davante Adams were in discussions on a deal that would make him the highest paid wide receiver in the NFL.
The highest paid WR is Hopkins at $27.25M per season. Gonna definitely eclipse that. Thing it’s at least $28M per season for Davante Adams.

On the other hand, another CBS Sports report states that Adams wants to wait and see how the Aaron Rodgers situation plays out before he commits to the Packers again.
A report from #ESPN says #Packers are working on a "massive" contract extension for Davante Adams making him the highest paid WR in the #NFL. Another on CBS Sports says it's wait & see on #12's future for Adams who may want to go to join #Raiders, and his college QB Derek Carr.

The Derek Carr Situtaion
In addition to the uncertainty surrounding his contract, Adams recently stated it would be “a dream” to play with Derek Carr, his college teammate and friend.

The two made quite the tandem at Fresno State. The pair linked up for 30 touchdowns in just 26 games while playing together in college. Any team, the Raiders or otherwise, that could possibly reunite the two would have one of the best quarterback-receiver tandems in the league.

Where Does That Leave the Packers?
In short, only the Packers and Davante Adams know what is really going on. In response to a report about his being in discussions with the Packers, Davante Adams commented a “cap” emoji, which means “lie.” The reality of the situation is that we simply just do not know if Adams will be extended, traded, tagged, or allowed to explore free agency. Adams has said in the past that the Aaron Rodgers situation will affect his own decision. Despite the current reports, it is likely we are no closer to knowing in Davante Adams will be a Packer beyond 2021 than we were a month ago.
