Perhaps one of the most funny and unfortunate scenes in the last week came during the Brewers-Dodgers series. Bernie Brewer has a slide that sits in the stands and graces him after each home run.
However, Dodgers TV reporter David Vassegh didn’t enjoy his ride as much as Bernie Brewer. Vassegh decided to go for a joyride on the slide and ended up cracking 6 ribs and fracturing his wrist. All of the injuries were the result of him crashing into the roughly padded wall at the bottom of the slide.
Gravity took over completely and sent Vassegh into a ball. The LA reporter became a projectile and launched himself into the wall. Almost immediately, he was writhing around on the ground in severe pain. It was an odd situation for nearly everyone as they couldn’t tell if laughing was appropriate or not. Some Brewers fans and onlookers laughed before realizing it was a real injury.
Justin Turner was able to get an alternate angle of the slide that shows Vassegh losing control on the slide.

While the injuries he sustained were very real, the Brewers mascot, Bernie, helped lighten the mood with a shrine. On it it reads, “Zero days since the last incident” with a frowning face and “Slide Instruction Manual”. All of this to go along with the last words Vassegh uttered before he shot down the Brewers slide.
Next time how about we leave it to the professional? pic.twitter.com/2dViBfvLZI

Bernie Brewer also made sure to comfort Vassegh in person after the injury. He joked with David about the injury but also gave him a yellow bouquet of flowers.
While any normal reporter would leave, Vassegh continued to do his job and he was also there for the next game in a cast. Maybe everyone should stick to letting Bernie ride the slide.
