Kurt Benkert spent one season in Green Bay and turned into one of the most beloved Packers of recent memory. His connection with fans off the field has been second to none. Benkert also developed a special relationship with players on the team, one of them being Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers recently revealed that he will go on a four-day “darkness retreat” before making a decision regarding his future. Rodgers’ announcement was met with harsh criticism online by fans and even former players. When Kurt Benkert saw one of those former players mocking Aaron Rodgers, he couldn’t sit in silence.
Kurt Benkert Rips Former Offensive Lineman Mitchell Schwartz
In response to hearing about Aaron Rodgers’ darkness retreat, Schwartz took to social media to share his thoughts:
Weird the Packers aren’t consulting more with the guy who needs to go on a 4-day darkness retreat to figure out whether he wants to play football…
Be curious. Not judgmental. We are all on our own path, and doing things like this helps me find a greater sense of peace and love for life. Love and respect to you
I’ve seen a lot of people ripping on him lately (per usual) and it feels like they are doing it just for likes / to be “cool”. Meanwhile, if it’s another athlete talking about doing things to work on their own mental health, it’s courageous. Don’t play both sides.
