Kevin King did not play in an NFL game in 2023. After his contract expired after the 2021-2022 season he was not signed by an NFL team. King was the 33rd pick in the NFL draft in the 2017 draft. He dealt with injuries in his time with Green Bay. He recently posted a YouTube video opening up about mental health, life and his path back to the NFL.

    Kevin King’s Return to Football

Currently, King is a free agent after not playing any football in 2023. He said he took the 2022 season to focus on himself and get back to his best playing form.

“I knew if I took care of myself and took care of my body, and for the type of player I know I can be I wanted to take some time for myself, so I made that decision.”

    -Kevin King

King confirmed that not playing in 2022 was a decision he made for the betterment of his career. However, his chances of playing in 2023 may also be in jeopardy. He announced in the video that he tore his Achilles while working out.

Video: Kevin King announced the news on his Youtube channel, while also sharing the sad news that his little brother recently passed.

Kevin King Opens Up About Mental Health

“After my fifth year with the Packers I was actually pretty healthy. My first four years I had a surgey after every year so I didn’t have a chance to have an offseason. I really just went under the needle and then I make way back up just right to go out there and really get f—-d up next year. That’s what comes with it. We warriors. That’s what we do so we going to fight against that reagrdless. The thing with that though is that they don’t really talk about the wear and tear on your mental dealing with injuries”

    -Kevin King

King said not all athletes deal with injuries to the level he did. He mentioned that every week, trying to play through injuries, got to the point where his mindset was ‘just play through it.’

“Another year or two of game day decisions, or little stuff like that, I dont know if I could’ve done that.”

    -Kevin King

King’s journey was derailed by his Achilles injury. He mentioned that his little brother passed away just two days prior. Despite the obstacles in his path King said he is blessed. King said he is still processing how to feel with all the stuff going on in his life.

“Every type of adversity, every type of obsticle is going to make this story even sweeter. I’m at a point now where I don’t have to prove s–t to myself. I’m to the point where I know who I am. Its only a matter of time before things unfold how they’re supposed to unfold.”
