Kentucky Fans Mixed On Twitter About Graham Mertz’ Transfer

    Graham Mertz transfers to Kentucky

Sometimes Christmas gifts, while thoughtful, can be disappointing upon opening. Kentucky fans learned today their stockings had been stuffed with a Wisconsin Badgers repackaged quarterback knockoff. Graham Mertz announced this past weekend he was entering the transfer portal. He chose the Kentucky Wildcats Wednesday night. Wildcats fans have mixed opinions on the Graham Mertz transfer.

Kentucky fans seemed surprised by the news. Kentucky fans are currently spoiled by watching a future NFL round-one draft pick behind the center. Mertz might be their starter next year as he fights for a starting job under offensive coordinator Rich Scangarello. Besides Will Levis, who will be playing Sundays next season, the Wildcats quarterback room is relatively sparse. Mertz will have a good chance to start for Kentucky.

    Fans react on social media

Kentucky fans reacted on Twitter to the news Mertz was heading to Lexington. Most Wildcats fans acted as if this was the second worst thing the Badgers had done to their program after upsetting the “Perfection” basketball team in the 2015 Final Four. Some think Mertz can resurrect his career at the program. Here are the best takes on social media after Mertz decided to go to Kentucky.

Most all of the tweets you linked in this article are not from UK fans judging by the bios and other tweets. One is a Wisconsin fan and another Iowa.

I’m a mod on a large UK site and I can tell you the general take is we are happy to have Mertz. Obviously his stats aren’t eye popping but he seems to have all the tangibles and will be coached by current (soon to be former) LA Rams Offensive Coordinator Liam Coen.
