Aaron Rodgers’ first full season with the New York Jets didn’t go as planned, and the two parties seem to be headed to a messy divorce, as the team is far from being a legitimate Super Bowl contender.
The New York Jets have a huge decision to make this offseason, and if they cut ties with Aaron Rodgers, Brian Costello of The New York Post suggests that the team should consider going after Pittsburgh Steelers’ Justin Fields.
“I think the Jets are going to move on from Rodgers. They could have Tyrod Taylor as their bridge quarterback. Or they could try to find the next reclamation project. When looking through first-round picks from recent drafts who may be able to put it together in the right situation, one name jumps out to me — Justin Fields,” Costello wrote in his column.
“The talent is there. Are the Jets team the right one to bring it out of him? That’s a fair question. But the Jets are going to consider Arthur Smith for their head coaching opening. Smith, who flamed out after two years as the Falcons’ head coach, is Fields’ current offensive coordinator in Pittsburgh. Could those two team up in New York?” he added.
New York Jets legend says that Aaron Rodgers is far from done
The New York Jets finished their 2024 campaign with a 32-20 win over the Miami Dolphins which saw Aaron Rodgers going 23-for-36 on his passes for 274 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception.
New York Jets legend Joe Namath liked what he saw from the 41-year-old signal-caller, so much so that he prefers for Rodgers to stay in the Big Apple.
“After watching @AaronRodgers12 play today, there’s no doubt he’s got at a least another year in him. So if he WANTS to, I’d love to see him stay with the Jets. He could definitely help the new GM and coach, as well as play ball. He’s still throwing with accuracy and authority,” Namath wrote on his X (formerly known as Twitter).
