Josh Jacobs Remains ‘Steady Engine’ for Packers’ Offense

In a lot of ways, Josh Jacobs jumpstarted and transformed the Packers’ offense, after signing as a free agent last March.

Jacobs, 27, returned to form and elevated the Packers’ offense last season, rushing for 1,329 yards and a career-high 15 touchdowns, his most prolific output since winning the rushing crown back in 2022.

As the 2025 NFL season approaches, Jacobs figures to once again play an outsized role in Green Bay’s offense and begins the upcoming campaign as one of the top running backs in the league.

Over at Pro Football Focus, Trevor Sikkema put together a list of the top-50 players in the league for the upcoming season, with Jacobs cracking the list at No. 49 overall, trailing only Jahmyr Gibbs, Bijan Robinson, Saquon Barkley, and Derrick Henry among running backs.

“Josh Jacobs’ 93.0 rushing grade over the past three seasons,” Sikkema writes for PFF. “Trails only Derrick Henry among NFL running backs. In 2024, he added a 91.3 rushing grade and an 89.2 receiving grade, reinforcing his status as one of the league’s most versatile backs. Over the last four years, Jacobs also ranks fourth at the position in PFF WAR (0.58). Whether as the focal point or in a supporting role — most often the former — he remains a steady engine for his offense.”

The Packers could lean even more significantly onto Jacobs, or offer a change of pace with the likes of Marshawn Lloyd or Emanuel Wilson taking meaningful carries, which could also serve to keep Jacobs fresh for the biggest moments of Green Bay’s biggest games.

Either way, Jacobs is a key piece of the Packers’ offense and a critical cog in Green Bay’s success.
