What a game by the young Brewers centerfielder.
This game was won by the young guys as Brice Turang hit an RBI single off Orioles RHP Yennier Cano in the bottom of the 8th inning to tie the game at 3-3. Turang after a long slump at the plate in which he had one hit in 35 at-bats, broke out in Tuesday’s game with two hits, and a walk.
The real hero of the night was Joey Wiemer. After going hitless through nine innings, Wiemer took a hanging curveball from Orioles RHP Austin Voth and drove it to the left field corner to drive in the speedy Andruw Monasterio.
Outside of the offense, Brewers RHP Freddy Peralta kept the Orioles offense at bay by pitching five strong innings, allowed only six hits, two earned runs, and struck out nine.
The Brewers bullpen allowed only two hits from the Baltimore offense, and outside of that game on June 3rd in which the bullpen almost blew a 9-2 lead against the Reds, the bullpen has been consistent this year.
The combination of dominant pitching, and unsung heroes Turang and Wiemer coming through in the clutch aided in the victory on Tuesday.
Wiemer also ran down this fly ball in the gap to rob Aaron Hicks of an RBI chance in the third inning.
Joey said ‘not today’.
