Highly regarded Milwaukee Brewers prospects Joey Wiemer and Brice Turang have both made their Major League debuts. In each player’s first at-bat they swung at the first pitch and both collected hits. This puts them on a short list of Milwaukee players to accomplish this.
Per Dominic Cotroneo, since 1988 just three other Brewers have collected a hit on their first pitch during their Major League debuts. The other players are Joe Smak, Eddy Diaz, and Hernan Iribarren. Turang and Wiemer bring the total up to five players.
Since 1988 (when pitch tracking became widely available)
Here’s the list of @Brewers to earn a hit on their first pitch in the big leagues:
’93 Joe Kmak (1B)
’97 Eddy Díaz (1B)
’08 Hernan Iribarren (1B)
’23 Brice Turang (1B)
’23 Joey Wiemer (2B)— Dominic Cotroneo (@Dom_Cotroneo) April 1, 2023
Joey Wiemer and Brice Turang both collected hits by swinging at the first pitch of their big league careers.
Turang, who started at second base on opening day, had a single off of Marcus Stroman. His speed contributed to him collecting this hit as he beat the throw to first base on a ball that was hit in the infield.

Wiemer, who was promoted after Luis Urias was placed on the injured list, started in center field for the Brewers during game two of 162. His hit came off of Justin Steele and was a blooper into the outfield in which he used his wheels to make it a double.
