Joe Namath Reveals What He Would Do If the Jets Landed Aaron Rodgers In 2023

The New York Jets seem to be at the center of discussion when it comes to potential landing spots for quarterbacks in 2023. Even legendary Jets quarterback Joe Namath thinks his former team should make a move for a new QB. More specifically, he’d like to see New York pursue Aaron Rodgers.

Joe Namath Would Allow Aaron Rodgers To Wear No. 12

During an appearance on the “Tiki & Tierney” show, Joe Namath spoke highly of the Packers’ veteran quarterback and said that if Rodgers wants to wear No. 12, he would have his blessing. The No.12 is currently retired by the Jets in honor of Namath.

“I’m a big Rodgers fan. I notice that he wears No. 12, of course,” Namath said. “I’m thinking, well, man, if we get him on our side, is he still going to be wearing No. 12, because the number was retired many years ago? … I’d sure like Rodgers, if he’s there, yeah, I want him to wear his number, man.”

The Jets do seem like a team that is a quarterback away from being a legitimate Super Bowl contender. I mean, they nearly made the playoffs while dealing with a circus at the QB position in 2022. New York currently has the longest playoff drought at 12-years, and they haven’t won a Super Bowl since 1969 when Namath was the quarterback. Could Aaron Rodgers change that?

Rodgers’ future is still up in the air. Will he return to the Packers in 2023, seek a trade, or call it a career? The four-time MVP said he thinks he could win the award for a fifth time in the right situation, so it doesn’t sound like he’s ready to hang up his cleats just yet.

There is still so much uncertainty of where or if Rodgers will play next season, however, if it was up to Joe Namath the decision would be clear.
