The Green Bay Packers are officially losing one of the most important members of the coaching staff. Defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley is leaving his post under Matt LaFleur to become the head coach of the Miami Dolphins. Hafley was rumored by some to receive head coaching interest as early as last summer, and he is now officially taking his talents to South Beach. While Packers fans are disappointed to lose one of the league’s ascending talents in the coaching industry, Miami fans currently seem less than thrilled.

Jeff Hafley Lands 1st NFL Head Coaching Job With Miami Dolphins
Jeff Hafley was one of the more impressive defensive minds in the NFL over the past two seasons. During the past two seasons, he has piloted a defensive resurgence in Green Bay that has led the Packers to be one of the NFL’s top units.

Hafley is now set to take the reins of an NFL organization for the first time. Although head coaching will not be new to him, as he was the head man for the Boston College Golden Eagles for four years, leading the rebuilding Miami Dolphins will be an entirely different challenge.
While there are still questions in Vice City about who will be starting at quarterback next season, the front office seems to be in agreement that Hafley is the man to steer the ship back on course.

Chairman and owner Stephen Ross was quoted describing him as an “accomplished coach with a proven track record as a leader and motivator,” while new general manager Jon-Eric Sulllivan said that he “has a vision for the kind of team we will be and the ability to motivate them to move in one direction on the path towards that goal.”
Despite the new regime feeling good about the decision, the Dolphins fan base is much less excited.

Miami Dolphins Fans Don’t Seem Excited About Jeff Hafley Hire
There’s no secret as to what makes NFL fans the most excited about new hirings – big names and big money. While about a quarter of the league’s fanbases are praying for activity this summer that will give them a reason for hope next season, Dolphins fans were hoping to move on from Mike McDaniel with another exciting, name-brand lead man. Maybe a fresher young offensive mind to pair with a new QB?
Instead, Miami fans are getting a defensive-minded, first-time head coach who most NFL fans have probably never heard of – and many of them are not pleased about it. From pointing to his lack of success at Boston College to pointing to alternatives, the overall reception is negative.
This is what Jeff Hafley did at Boston College. 22-26 in 4 years. pic.twitter.com/YvYeeZIBvi

I would never make it as an NFL GM because I would see Jeff Hafley go 3-9 at Boston College and immediately disqualify him from head coaching job

Absolutely hate the fact they chose another 1st time HC after the last 25 yrs have proved that to be the wrong choice. There were so many Vet NFL HCs available & they 100% failed to get any & it doesn’t even look they really tried to.

Of all the head coaching hires of the past two decades for the Miami Dolphins, Jeff Hafley would by far be the worst
Shits so depressing man

Some fans are already calling Hafley as bad as Adam Gase, another former offensive wizard who was a famously disastrous hire for Miami.
The Dolphins new head coach is Jeff Hafley, book it. We’ll go from Adumb Gase, to Mike McDumbnuts to Jeff Butthead Hafley. What a poverty franchise! pic.twitter.com/l2AOcnhBMg

Hafley certainly had some defenders among Dolphins fans, even if they were the minority.
My opinion on Jeff Hafley:
Not my first choice, but not my last choice. It’s not a super exciting hire, but McDaniel was an exciting hire and here we are. With 1st time head coaches, nobody knows anything. We all felt pretty happy with Jon-Eric Sullivan being the new GM, well…

Time will tell if Hafley works on in Miami, but for now, it is certainly interesting to witness a franchise that has been struggling for quite some time take a rather large philosophical pivot in their approach.
