As Boston was putting away the game in the fourth quarter, tensions began to brew between the two teams. Tensions peaked when Jaylen knocked down Giannis while he was setting a screen for Jrue Holiday. Antetokounmpo shot up from the ground, and slightly pushed Brown in the back. Both players were separated while exchanging a few words.
The Celtics won the game 139-118. Jaylen Brown scored 29 points, while Giannis led his team with 27. Boston got a big lift from MVP candidate Jason Tatum, scoring 41.
Jaylen Brown Speaks Out On Altercation
After the game was over, Jaylen gave his perspective on his tension fueled altercation with Giannis.
“I thought I was playing pretty physical defense, nothing dirty. It seemed like it was a clean play,” Brown said. “Maybe he was a little bit frustrated. He got up and threw an elbow at me, for whatever reason.”
“There’s a difference between trying to be a tough guy and letting your opponent know that I’m not backing down, I’m not afraid of any challenge or any matchup whatsoever,” Brown said. “In that moment I was just letting him know that.”
