Jaire Alexander and Stefon Diggs have been matching up for a long time. With Diggs spending the first part of his career in Minnesota, Alexander and the Packers have seen him a lot. They haven’t forgotten each other. During pregame, Jaire Alexander and Stefon Diggs were seen jawing with each other. After the game, Alexander was asked what he said. Sometimes players are coy about what they say on the field. Jaire Alexander is not. “I told him he couldn’t mess with me and he a little boy,” Alexander said when asked. Many players can talk but Alexander can back it up with his play. While Diggs had a big night, none of his catches came while matched up against Jaire Alexander. Most of the big catches that Diggs had was while being covered by Rasul Douglas. Alexander is a true lockdown corner and does not allow many yards to the receiver he is covering.
Why Doesn’t Alexander Follow The Best Receiver?
This is a question everyone in the NFL is asking. Rasul Douglas is a solid corner but Alexander is on another level. The best way to beat most teams is to take away their best weapon. Stefon Diggs is the best receiver on the Bills by far. Had Alexander followed him throughout the game, Diggs may have had a very different night. That may not have changed the outcome as Josh Allen and the rest of the offense are still dangerous but shutting down Diggs gives you the best chance. The defense has been making adjustments the past couple of weeks and it will be interesting to see if Alexander starts following more top receivers.
This is the fun part of the NFL. I personally love the trash talk and taunting as long as it doesn’t turn into a safety issue. A lot of players can talk but it is awesome to watch Alexander back up his talk with his play.
