A veteran on the Green Bay Packers was set to make his return to the team’s facility this week for mandatory minicamp after being present only for the virtual portion of OTAs this spring. The Packers plan to designate him as a post-June 1 cut before minicamp begins.
Per Matt Scheidman of The Athletic, the Packers offered cornerback Jaire Alexander a restructured deal in May. The cornerback and his agent never agreed to the new deal.

On Monday, Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported the Packers plan to release Alexander.
“The Packers and Jaire Alexander agreed to explore a potential trade this spring, while a restructured contract was also discussed,” Rapoport posted on X. “In the end, Green Bay and Alexander move on with a clean break.”

Per Rapoport, the Packers wanted Alexander to agree to a pay cut. It’s unclear how big of a payout they asked him to take.
Brian Gutekunst wanted something in return for Jaire Alexander

In February, general manager Brian Gutekunst wanted to receive as much as possible in return for investing in the 2018 first-round pick. The Packers owed Alexander $17.5 million for the upcoming season.
Alexander earned two Pro Bowl appearances and was named an All-Pro twice during his time in Green Bay. When on the field, Alexander was a force for the Packers’ defense. Unfortunately, back and knee injuries kept him from being on the field enough for Green Bay’s front office.
Alexander started and appeared in 14 games in the last two seasons. The former Louisville Cardinals standout recorded 287 tackles, 70 passes defensed, three forced fumbles, and 12 interceptions in his seven years with Green Bay.

Good. Glad that piece of garbage is gone. Terrible teammate and little production.
