Jackson Chourio is currently the Milwaukee Brewers top overall prospect. The 19 year old outfielder from Venezuela is also ranked near the top among all prospects and is starting 2023 as Baseball America’s third overall prospect and MLB Pipelines’s 10th.
Last season, Jackson Chourio rapidly ascended up the rankings and was put on everyone’s radar. Across three levels in 2022, including a brief stint in Double-A, he hit .288/.342/.538 with 20 home runs, 75 RBI, and 16 stolen bases. That is quite impressive for anyone to do, none-the-less at 18 years old.
As last year moved along, Jackson Chourio started getting comparisons to MLB players, in which he was most frequently getting compared to Ronald Acuna Jr. Despite this, that is not who Chourio is modeling his game after.
In a recent interview with MLB Network, Jackson Chourio revealed which player he wants to model his game after.
In the video, Chourio is asked why Julio Rodriguez is his favorite player. His response was that “He loves the way he plays the game and wants to emulate his game after him.”
Both Chourio and Rodriguez and outfielders, hit from the right side, and are physically gifted. Rodriguez is currently one of the most electric players in baseball, so that’s not a bad person to want to emulate!
Another question that was asked was what he wants to work on the most going forward. Chourio responded with “pitch recognition and being able to better adjust to a pitcher during an at-bat.”
Lastly, Chourio made comments on how it has been beneficial working with other top Milwaukee Brewers prospects this spring training. He also discusses how he has been mentoring his 17 year old brother Jaison throughout the process in which he is currently the Cleveland Guardians 15th ranked prospect.
