The Milwaukee Brewers came into their half of the ninth inning trailing the San Diego Padres 4-1. They ended up winning the game 5-4 on an Andrew McCutchen walk-off single to score Jace Peterson from third base. How Peterson ended up on third, though, is the real story of tonight’s game.
Jace Peterson Plays Hero in the Ninth Inning
Keston Hiura led off the Brewers half of the ninth inning with a single off of Padres closer Taylor Rogers. Coming into the game, Rogers was second in baseball with 17 saves. After Hiura reached, Rogers hit both Kolten Wong and Victor Caratini with pitches to load the bases with no outs.
Jace Peterson came up to the plate, and after working the count to 3-1, did this:

Peterson cleared the bases with a three-RBI triple to tie the game.
Andrew McCutchen Gives the Brewers the Walk-Off Win
Andrew McCutchen entered the game in a woeful 0-29 slump. After going 0-4 to start the game, McCutchen came up clutch with a huge slump buster up the middle to win the game.

The San Diego Padres had brought in Nabil Chismatt, a right-handed pitcher, to face McCutchen. It did not matter as McCutchen laced a 2-1 offering up the middle for a single. It was his first hit since May 26 against the St. Louis Cardinals.
After the game, McCutchen discussed how he powered through his slump with Bally Sports’ Sophia Minnaert:
"I said I was gonna get through it and I saw nothing but support."
