The Packers offense is currently the best in the NFL in terms of points and yards. Matt LaFleur’s offense finally looks like what it was envisioned to be when Green Bay made the hire. A great deal of the offensive production can be attributed to Davante Adams. Adams is already recognized as one of the game’s best wideouts. However, it may be time to put him in conversation as the best.
Numbers
On a surface level view, Davante Adams career numbers seem like that of a good, not great, receiver. However, Adams has proven himself as a top tier target. Additionally, when you take into account what he’s been able to do when the Packers have become comfortable in the new offense, it really shows how much of a matchup nightmare he is.
Over his last seven games, Adams has 61 receptions, 802 yards, and six touchdowns. If you span that across a 16 game season he would finish with 139 catches, 1,833 yards, and 13 touchdowns. Those numbers would be a historic season for not only the Packers but one of the best receiving seasons ever. Adams last season finished with 997 yards. He fell three yards short of 1,000 yards for the second time in his career. So Far this season Adams has 192 yards and 17 catches. His numbers would be far better if he did not exit week two against the Lions with an injury.
Game Recognize Game
Not only is Adams respected by fans of the game, but his peers as well. Adams is a three-time pro bowler and leads the NFL in touchdowns over that span of time. Davante Adams has been named to the NFL top 100 three straight years. The list is generated by player votes so it shows clear respect around the league. Additionally, when the reigning Defensive Player of The Year, Stephon Gilmore, was asked who the toughest receiver to guard at the line was, he said “Davante Adams has the best release in the game.”
Ultimately, Adams has both the numbers and talent to be recognized as the game’s best wide receiver. After what looks to be a very promising 2020 campaign, Adams should be mentioned in the conversation with Deandre Hopkins and Julio Jones as the best in football.
