NBA insider pours cold water on Giannis Antetokounmpo and LeBron James trade rumors

The NBA runs on star power, and trade rumors often generate more excitement than the games themselves. Usually, those rumors are nothing more than online talk, but occasionally they carry some weight. That might be true for two of the league’s biggest names, LeBron James and Giannis Antetokounmpo, who both appear unsure about their current situations and possibly ready for a new chapter.

Giannis and Lebron are set to earn more than $50 million this season, making any potential trade incredibly difficult to pull off. With such massive contracts on the books, even if they pushed for a move, the effort might not be worth it given the growing wave of trade speculation.

Sam Amick shared his perspective on FanDuel’s Run It Back, saying, “I just do not see it. I think LeBron and somebody even of Giannis’ stature when you talk about being younger and at this point better.”

Are Giannis Antetokounmpo and LeBron James staying put?

“Today’s NBA you gotta move around and I think honestly, that’s what these guys learned in the summer is that if you’re Giannis and you’re frustrated with your situation and if you are LeBron and you are not quite sure that you might want to finish things up in Laker land, you look up and it is the second apron environment. It is the fact that free agency is not what it used to be. You cannot go get that max deal somewhere else.”

LeBron James appears to be having trouble adjusting to a smaller role with the Los Angeles Lakers. Giannis Antetokounmpo, meanwhile, would instantly become the foundation of any roster he joins, but his main priority is winning. The lingering question for Milwaukee is whether the Milwaukee Bucks can still give him that chance to contend.

Put aside for now that LeBron James is nursing an injury and approaching his 41st birthday. He’s coming off an All-NBA Second Team season and remains one of the 15 best players in basketball. Giannis Antetokounmpo, meanwhile, remains a top-three force on both ends of the floor. In theory, any roster built around either superstar should be capable of competing for a title.

Even the top teams run into rough stretches as injuries build up and playoff dreams begin to slip away. Since Antetokounmpo remains under contract through next season, it will ultimately be up to the Bucks to decide if they want to tune out the trade rumors or consider parting ways with their best player.
