Hyeseong Kim reportedly will be the latest player from the Korean Baseball Organization (KBO) to be posted for MLB teams to sign. He will be considered a “professional” under MLB rules because he is at least 25 years old and has at least six years of experience in a foreign league. This means that unlike Roki Sasaki, he can sign any deal without a cap on length or dollar amount.
In this article, we take a further look at Hyeseong Kim’s game and what makes him an ideal fit for the Milwaukee Brewers.
Hyeseong Kim fits the offensive profile of several other Milwaukee Brewers players
A season ago, manager Pat Murphy had the Milwaukee Brewers putting the ball in play, utilizing their speed, and putting pressure on opposing defenses. Left-handed hitting speedster Hyeseong Kim does all of those things very well. Over the past four seasons he has hit for over a .300 batting average, he has a career 16.3% strikeout rate across a very large sample size of 3433 plate appearances, and he has stolen more than 20 bases each of the last seven seasons. If the 2025 Brewers are going to utilize a similar offensive strategy, then Hyeseong Kim would fit right in.
Defensively, Hyeseong Kim is very versatile but has played primarily in the infield
Hyeseong Kim is viewed as a great athlete. This allows him to play multiple positions defensively in which he is viewed as a strong defender no matter where he is stationed. Throughout his career his most played position has been second base (5,162 innings). Shortstop comes in second place (1,924 innings), left field third place (291 innings), and third base last (95 innings).
Hyeseong Kim would be an ideal signing for the Milwaukee Brewers this off-season
The Brewers are known for taking calculated risks while staying mindful of their budget. Signing Hyeseong Kim would likely be a cost-effective move, with MLB Trade Rumors projecting a three-year, $24 million contract. Moreover, with shortstop Willy Adames likely heading elsewhere, adding a player who seamlessly fits both their offensive and defensive strategies would be a smart decision. An infield consisting of Hyesong Kim, Joey Ortiz, and Brice Turang could cover a lot of ground in which all of these players are capable of playing multiple infield positions.
Hyeseong Kim reportedly will be available to start negotiation on Wednesday, December 4. He will have 30 days to sign with a MLB team, otherwise he will return to the Kiwoom Heroes.
