Opening day for all 30 baseball teams was yesterday March 30. Out on the west coast the Los Angeles Angels opened up the season against the Oakland Athletics. Despite a spectacular pitching performance from Shohei Ohtani, The A’s won by a score of 2-1. During the game, Angels outfielder Hunter Renfroe robbed his former teammate Jace Peterson with a spectacular no-look grab in the outfield.
Hunter Renfroe robs former Milwaukee Brewers teammate Jace Peterson with a spectacular no-look grab in the outfield.
Hunter Renfroe was traded to the Angels during the offseason. In return the Milwaukee Brewers received three pitchers in Janson Junk, Elvis Peguero, and Adam Seminaris. The Angels now get one season of Hunter Renfroe who contributed this incredible play on opening day.
At the plate during Renfroe’s spectacular catch was a former teammate of his from his time in Milwaukee. That player was Jace Peterson. Peterson signed a two year $9.5 million deal with the Oakland Athletics during the offseason.
According to spotrac, Peterson has the third highest average annual value on the A’s this season. In Milwaukee his nickname was “On Base Jace” due to his excellent eye at the plate and ability to draw walks. He also showed flashes of being a good offensive contributor while also being an above average defender.
Game two of the Angels and Athletics series will take place on Saturday April 1. First pitch is scheduled for 3:07 PM CT.
