Strikeouts were a big part of the Milwaukee Brewers games in 2022. The pitching staff had the third-most strikeouts in the majors last season with 1,530, behind the Atlanta Braves and New York Mets.
But strikeouts by the Brewers’ batters were also a key factor last season; the Brewers batters had 1,464 strikeouts, fourth-most in baseball, behind the Angels, Braves and Pirates.
Consider this: As a Brewers fan, you saw just under 3,000 strikeouts last season between the Brewers pitching staff and the team’s batters. That is about 18.5 strikeouts per game. Only one other team had as many strikeouts from both sides, the Braves. They had just over 3,052 strikeouts between their pitching staff and batters.
Two eye-opening stats about Milwaukee Brewers strikeouts
Once you evaluate strikeouts from each game last season, there are some very revealing stats for the Brewers. Here’s two that are especially telling:
- When Brewers batters struck out 10 times or more in a game in 2022, their record was 34-37 (.479). When Brewers batters struck out fewer than 10 times in a game, the team’s record was 52-39 (.571). That is a difference of almost 100 percentage points.
- When Brewers pitchers struck out fewer than 10 opposing batters in a game in 2022, their record was 36-54 (.400). When Brewers pitchers struck out 10 or more batters in a game, the team’s record was 50-22 (.694). That is a nearly 300 percentage points difference.
Let’s breakdown these stats are little further. Here is a look at the 2022 Brewers’ record in games when their batters struck out between two and 16 times in a game:

Following is a look at the 2022 Brewers’ record in games when their pitchers struck out between two and 16 opposing batters in a game:

The perfect strikeout scenario
If you are looking for an optimal number of strikeouts for the Brewers from last year for both their pitchers and their batters, it might be this: The Brewers were 22-8 (.733) in games last year when their lineup struck out six times or less; the Brewers were 36-10 (.783) in games last year when their pitchers struck out 12 or more opposing batters in a game.
Now if it was only that easy to hit these stats on a regular basis.

Nice article, Jerry.
The quality of speculation at wisportsheroic is wide ranging, but the useful and insightful analysis usually has your name at the top. Keep up the good work. With more power arms in the bullpen this season, the staffs K count should rise.
Also, berween acqusitions and up and coming contact hitters, the offensive K count should lower..
