The Milwaukee Brewers cut ties with several players upon the conclusion of the 2024 season. Key departures include Willy Adames, Frankie Montas, and Devin Williams, but other players who previously had significant roles with the team include Joe Ross, Hoby Milner, Jake Bauers, Bryse Wilson, and Colin Rea. Recently, Milner signed with his hometown team the Texas Rangers.
Hoby Milner signed a contract with the Texas Rangers
One area the Rangers are looking to improve upon this off-season is the bullpen. Signing Hoby Milner to a one year, $2.5 million is one step that they have taken to do so. Currently, Milner joins Walter Pennington as the only other left-handed reliever on Texas’s 40-man roster.
As a member of the Milwaukee Brewers, Hoby Milner had a pair of career years out of the bullpen
Hoby Milner spent four years with the Brewers. In total he pitched to a 3.42 ERA that includes an outstanding 2023 season where he appeared in 73 games and had a 1.73 ERA. The season before that he similarly was one of Milwaukee’s most used relievers as he played in 67 games and had a 3.76 ERA.
Hoby Milner is ecstatic to have signed with the Texas Rangers
Growing up, Hoby Milner watched his home town Rangers on television. To return to Texas and pitch for the Rangers is something he wasn’t sure would happen, but Texas was one of the first teams to reach out to him after being non-tendered by the Brewers. He now not only gets to pitch for his home team, but an organization that may be in contention for a World Series as well.
“The Rangers have been my team for a long time. All things considered, just being at home and playing for a team that’s got the ability to win a World Series, there’s just no better time to come play for the Rangers. I thought it would be very hard to pass up this opportunity.”
