With the 2024 football season kicking off nearly everywhere, one athlete playing for the Hamilton Chargers is more than prepared for the season.

Wide receiver and defensive back Drew Olsson, a 2027 recruit, is entering another season under the spotlight of potential collegiate coaches and recruiting analysts. Olsson is a talented wide receiver with a burst of speed off the line that allows him to create separation with ease. The athlete was previously on the Prep Redzone watchlist for top incoming high school players and now aims to prove he belongs.

Menomonee Falls tight end Mason Holseth (8) fights to get to the end zone but is stopped by Sussex Hamilton defensive back Mason Desai (24) in a game Friday, October 6, 2023, at Hamilton High School in Sussex, Wisconsin. Hamilton won, 40-20.

Entering the 2024 season, Hamilton Chargers High School football wide receiver Drew Olsson is stepping onto the field with plenty of expectations surrounding his play. The dynamic athlete previously found himself as a top prospect to watch in the state of Wisconsin before kicking off his high school career. Since then, the wide receiver has claimed the second-overall positional ranking in the state within the 2027 recruiting class.

Olsson spent the first season of his career with Hamilton primarily as a back-up on the loaded roster that recorded a 12-1 record a season ago. The Chargers had five senior wide receivers on their roster last year which in part buried Olsson on the depth chart. However, when the receiver was able to shine, he certainly did, and earned himself a spot on the radar of recruiting analysts and coaches alike.

This upcoming season could prove to be a pivotal one of Olsson, as the receiver could take his game to the next-level and truly impress. Olsson has all the tools to become a seriously difficult target to cover on the field, between his ability to run crisp routes and exceptional awareness of his positioning on the field. With a good season this year, Olsson could elevate his ranking and receive plenty of close attention from college coaches.

Up to this point, Olsson has not gotten a chance to fully experience what the college recruiting process is like, but hopes to find out during this season. As a Wisconsin native, Olsson was asked about the potential of the local Wisconsin Badgers contacting him as well as which recruiting factors matter the most to the receiver. The receiver stated, “I haven’t given it much of a thought yet, however academics will certainly be a top consideration.”

What Can Olsson Add to the Hamilton Chargers Squad on the Field?

As arguably one of the top skill position players in the state of Wisconsin, Drew Olsson can offer plenty to a team on the field. Olsson possesses a burst of speed, but is able to stay under control and attentive while running full speed, which allows the receiver to make plays. Along with his speed comes his route running ability and how the receiver is able to run quick, crisp routes on offense.

When asked about what he feels sets himself apart from other players on the field, Olsson stated, “I feel my best skills are my hands and my ability to run fast and smooth or quick routes to get open on the field.” The wide receiver has also embraced the fact that he has skill areas he needs to improve, and stated, “What I am working on now is a combination of my speed and strength, along with the experience that will come in my sophomore year.”

Standing in at 5-feet-11-inches, roughly 165-pounds, Olsson still has plenty of room on his frame to add size during this upcoming season. The wide receiver is a dynamic player with a full offseason of work under his belt, which could boost his potential breakout on the field this season.
