Wisconsin basketball suffered its first Big Ten loss to Illinois 79-69 on Saturday. This was the first game that they played fully without star forward Tyler Wahl. Wahl is still recovering from an ankle injury he suffered early in the Minnesota game. His absence was definitely felt as the Badgers had trouble scoring in the paint as well as stopping the Fighting Illini down low. After the game, Greg Gard gave an update on the Tyler Wahl ankle injury.

Greg Gard Gives Update On The Tyler Wahl Ankle Injury

There has been no prognosis given for Wahl’s injury but based on how he was acting after the game earlier in the week, it does not seem serious. Still, it would be nice to know when the Badgers can expect to have their best player back. “He’s improving, but not ready yet,” Gard said after the game. Wahl traveled with the team and even participated in warm-ups but ultimately did not play. The hope is that he will be ready soon.

    Proceeding With Caution

The Badgers are proceeding with caution. While you never want to see a loss, Wisconsin is still 3-1 in the Big Ten and looks to be one of the premier teams in the conference. There is still talent on the team and they will likely to still be able to win in the regular season without Wahl. What the Badgers do not want is for Wahl to hurt his ankle worse and be out long-term.

Based on the comment, Greg Gard does not seem to be concerned about the Tyler Wahl ankle injury. The Badgers are simply being cautious. Hopefully, Wahl will be back on the court soon and the Badgers can get back to their winning ways.
