The Green Bay Packers are not thinking about the 2024 NFL Draft yet but one mock draft had them selecting Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy with the 37th overall selection. If the season ended today, that would be a high second-round pick for them because that selection was actually acquired in the Aaron Rodgers trade.
The New York Jets currently have a 4-8 record on the season and it would be a good thing for Green Bay if New York continued to lose. The Packers have a loaded young wide receiver room to begin with, but taking Worthy would be very interesting if they went that route.
Green Bay currently would have five picks in the top 85 selections in the 2024 NFL Draft. There has been some critique by the fanbase about the way general manager Brian Gutekunst has swinged and missed on selections, but it is time to build around quarterback Jordan Love for the future. They will not need to draft a quarterback in 2024 unless something drastic happens.
Jacob Westendrof of Sports Illustrated wrote about the Packers picking Worthy in the second round of a 2024 Mock Draft by saying:
“here will be plenty of jokes made about how the Packers don’t take receivers in the first round, but that is mostly nonsense. Worthy adds the ability to take the top off of a defense and could likely play the slot at the next level. The Packers have Jayden Reed for slot duty, but they have been willing to move him around, and coach Matt LaFleur loves to diversify his formations as much as possible. Worthy played in an offense full of explosive players, but he is the best of the bunch. He caught 73 passes and five touchdowns in the regular season. He’s likely looking forward to the challenge of facing a tough Washington secondary in the College Football Playoff.”
Xavier Worthy during the regular season had 73 receptions for 969 yards receiving and five touchdowns. He also averaged 13.3 yards per reception. Worthy also rushed for 35 yards on four carries and zero touchdowns. He averaged 8.8 yards per carry. His versatility would provide another dimension to the Packers offense.
The Green Bay Packers Drafting Xavier Worthy Would Be Very Interesting Because Wide Receiver Isn’t a Position Of Need
Green Bay drafting another wide receiver with one of there five picks in the top 85 in the 2024 NFL Draft would be interesting. They have a young and loaded wide receiver room. Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, and Dontayvion Wicks are good players to have. Wicks has a ton of room to grow and so does Reed and Doubs.
Watson is the most talented wide receiver on the team, but he has shown inconsistency this season and has also been injured. That could be one of the reasons why Green Bay would take Xavier Worthy in the second round. Also, Malik Heath is the fifth wide receiver on the roster and is not bad either. Samori Toure could be the odd man out next year on the roster.
It is almost as if Green Bay would have to trade one of the five to make room for Worthy because there aren’t enough footballs to go around. In reality, the Packers need help on the offensive line and could use help at tackle and guard. The future is unknown at left tackle, especially with David Bahktiari. However, if the Packers didn’t make any wide receivers moves and had a room of Xavier Worthy, Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, and Dontayvion Wicks, it would be really good and scary.
It would be like the time when in 2011 when they went 15-1 and had a room of Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb, Donald Driver, James Jones, and Greg Jennings with Aaron Rodgers quarterbacking. That would be a dream scenario for the Green Bay Packers fanbase, head coach Matt LaFleur, and quarterback Jordan Love also.
