There were not many Green Bay Packers players who had what might call exemplary seasons in 2024. Quarterback Jordan Love was hampered by injuries, which hindered him for making many (if any) improvements from 2023. The wide receiver group, as a whole, did not make any leaps forward either, and none of them placed themselves among the NFL‘s best at the position.
That being said, two Packers players did stand out among the league’s best: safety Xavier McKinney and running back Josh Jacobs, both of whom were free agent signings last year. Defensive end Rashan Gary, too, earned a Pro Bowl nod based on votes from his peers.
Green Bay Packers Safety Xavier McKinney Made the Pro Bowl and Was Named First Team All-Pro
In his first season with the Packers, McKinney played all 17 games, recorded 88 tackles, had eight interceptions, and had 11 passes defended. Additionally, opposing quarterbacks had a 78.5 passer rating when targeting him.
Needless to say, McKinney almost single handedly improved the safety position in Green Bay, which had been a source of angst among fans for years.
His play separated himself from the NFL’s best at the position, and he was named to the Pro Bowl and selected at First Team All-Pro. McKinney was the only Packers player to earn an All-Pro nod this year.
Like Gary, he was named to the Pro Bowl based on voting by his peers. Detroit Lions safety Kerby Joseph had been leading in fan voting.
Green Bay Packers Safety Xavier McKinney Earns All-NFC and All-NFL Honors from the PFWA
On Monday, the Professional Football Writers Association (PFWA) released its All-AFC, All-NFC, and All-NFL teams. McKinney, unsurprisingly, was named to both the All-NFC and All-NFL teams (Joseph was the other safety voted on for both).
As was the case for the All-Pro teams, McKinney was the only Packers player selected. Jacobs lost out to Saquon Barkley in the NFC, and to both Barkley and Derrick Henry on the All-NFL Team. Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs was the second running back on the All-NFC team.
Former Wisconsin Badgers Zack Baun and TJ Watt were also voted onto teams, as was University of Wisconsin Whitewater product Quinn Meinerz.
