The Green Bay Packers are set to face the Denver Broncos this coming Sunday for a preseason matchup in Mile High City. But before that, the two teams will be practicing together on Friday. That’s going to be worth checking out for both fans of the Packers and Broncos, but one thing that will not take place during that practice are sessions involving just wide receivers (pass catchers) and defensive backs, according to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic.
The Packers and Broncos won’t do one-on-ones between pass catchers and defensive backs Friday because of the high likelihood of fights. The Packers did them Wednesday in Green Bay, however, and they carried high entertainment value. Romeo Doubs made what looked like a one-handed catch near the front left pylon for a touchdown on the first play against Corey Ballentine, then beat Ballentine in the same spot later for a two-handed catch. In a drill heavily catered to offensive players, Kalen King and Xavier McKinney forced incompletions on slants to Samori Toure and Luke Musgrave, respectively, but Musgrave got McKinney back.
It would have been nice to watch the wideouts and defensive backs go at it in practice, but it’s also okay to avoid the risk of fighting that may cause injuries. Fighting in the offseason, especially during joint practices has become some sort of a custom in the NFL. There have been a number of them already recently, and the Packers and Broncos seem to have no interest in seeing the mentioned position groups get their blood boiling in practice.
Green Bay Packers’ 2024 NFL Preseason Schedule
The Packers are 1-0 in the preseason thus far after beating the Cleveland Browns on the road last Saturday to the tune of a 23-10 score. After playing the Broncos in Denver this Sunday, the Packers will conclude their preseason schedule with a home date with the Baltimore Ravens on August 24.
