The Green Bay Packers are ramping up their preparations for their season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles after a successful preseason helped Matt LaFleur identify the team’s roster for the coming season. Jordan Love is already eager to start the season on the right foot, even claiming that his team is ready to take down the Eagles.
One of the reasons why the Packers are confident with their chances in the coming campaign is the acquisition of top talent to back up their starters. They acquired Malik Willis from the Tennessee Titans to play as their backup QB.
While he didn’t cut out as a starter for the Titans, the Packers organizations and the fans hope that he’ll do a good enough job to help the Packers make a deep playoff run whenever Love has to get off the field.
Matt LaFleur, Green Bay Packers want Malik Willis to adjust to the team’s offense
AP Sports’ Steve Megargee wrote about some of the finer details surrounding Willis’ move from Tennessee to the Packers.
He wrote that LaFleur didn’t find it hard to make a move for Willis due to his personal connections with the organization as one of its former offensive coordinators. He also revealed the expectations for the new Packers backup as there’s a bit of overlap on how things are run between the two teams offensively:
“So there was a little bit of crossover there in terms of some of the terminology and some of the things they were asking him to do,” LaFleur said. “He’s going to have to reframe it in terms of, a lot of these teams are doing a lot of similar things, you just might call it something different. So it’s like learning a new language.”
Malik Willis failed to make an impact in his two years with the Titans. The Liberty product finished his tenure in Tennessee with 350 passing yards, zero touchdowns, and three picks in 11 games.
Since there aren’t any lofty expectations with his move to the Green Bay Packers, the 25-year-old QB can focus on improving his game and being prepared whenever his number is called.
