The Green Bay Packers are coming off of back-to-back losses for the first time in Matt LaFleur’s era. The New York Jets and Giants both took care of the Packers in weeks five and six. It is time for the Packers to get back to their style of football in Week secen. The team will head out on the road to face the Commanders this upcoming week.
Packers vs. Commanders Series History
Green Bay leads the overall series 20-15, while Aaron Rodgers has a 3-3 record against the Commanders. Taylor Heinicke has played one career game against the Packers. That came in 2021 when the Packers beat Washington 24-10 at Lambeau Field.
Packers Offense NFL Week 7 Preview
Green Bay lost to the Jets this past Sunday at home by a score of 27-10. Being unable to consistently put up points has been the offenses’ Achilles tendon. Aaron Rodgers went 26-41 for 246 yards and one passing touchdown. The Packers’ offensive line did not provide enough protection for the starting QB, as he was sacked 4 times during the game. Rodgers also fumbled the ball twice, losing one of them.
Veteran wide receiver Allen Lazard scored the only TD. Packers tight end Robert Tonyan had the most receptions with 10 catches for 90 yards. The receivers were not able to produce any more scoring for the Packers.
The running game was still a lack as running backs Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon combined for 90 yards on just 20 carries. Again, Lafleur is giving up on running the ball in back-to-back games. Randall Cobb will be out for 2-4 weeks with a sprained ankle.
The good news for the offense is that veteran wideout Sammy Watkins is back practicing (limited) on Wednesday. Scoring will have to pick up in the coming weeks and on the road in Washington this week. Hopefully with a heavier run game and more carries for the Packer running backs.
Commanders Defense NFL Week 7 Preview
Washington only held the Bears to seven points at home last Thursday night. Bears QB Justin Fields went 14-27 for 190 yards, one touchdown, and an interception. Dante Pettis scored the only touchdown in the game on 4 receptions for 84 yards. Darnell Mooney was the second-leading receiver with 7 receptions for 68 yards.
The Commanders’ defense got to the quarterback for 5 sacks. Linebacker Cole Holcomb led the team in tackles with 12, and seven solo. Defensive linemen Montez Sweat, Jonathan Allen, Efe Obada, and Daron Payne all had one sack individually for Washington.
Green Bay will have to give Rodgers some good protection against their defensive line on the road. The Packers O-Line may have to do some adjusting or shifting to help support the Packers’ quarterback.
Packers Defense NFL Week 7 Preview
Green Bay was unable to stop the Jets running game. Breece Hall had 20 carries for 116 yards and one touchdown. Wide receiver Braxton Berrios had one rushing touchdown of 20 yards in the game. De’Vondre Campbell led the defense with 8 tackles, while Rashan Gary had one sack and two tackles for loss.
Kingsley Enagbare had the other sack for the Packers. Cornerback Jaire Alexander had 3 tackles, and three pass breakups in the secondary. The run game has given the Packers trouble in the last two games. Green Bay will have to stop the run/pass game coming up in Washington this week.
Commanders Offense NFL Week 7 Preview
Commanders QB Carson Wentz went 12-22 for 99 yards in Chicago. Running back Brian Robinson Jr had 17 carries for 90 yards and one touchdown. Wide receiver Terry McLaurin was their leading receiver with 3 receptions for 41 yards.
The rushing attack for Washington had 28 carries for 128 yards on the ground. The offense will look to get more production at home against the Packers in Week 7 using a couple of weapons at the wide receiver position. With Carson Wentz out with an injury, backup quarterback Taylor Heinicke will get the start on Sunday.
The Green Bay Packers will face the Washington Commanders on the road on October 23rd at 1:00 pm on Fox!
