The Green Bay Packers have three main areas of concern going into the 2023 season. The first two are figuring out their quarterback situation and addressing the talent/depth at the safety position. Right behind those two positions is the tight end position. Robert Tonyan and Marcedes Lewis could very likely be on new teams in 2023. While the draft is a viable option for the Green Bay Packers to address tight end, free agency is as well. Today, a veteran tight end was released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Veteran Tight End Cameron Brate Released By Tampa Bay

Tampa Bay plans to release Cameron Brate, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN tweets. The veteran tight end has been with the Buccaneers since 2014 after being signed as an un-drafted free agent.
This comes after Brate suffered a scary injury midway through last season. A sprained neck led to Brate being stretchered off the field in Pittsburgh, leading to a three-game absence. Brate, who had been bumped down in Tampa Bay’s pecking order during Rob Gronkowski’s time with the team, returned but did not make much of a statistical impact. He finished the year with 20 receptions for 174 yards and no touchdowns.
The Harvard alum’s 2,857 career receiving yards rank second among tight ends in Buccaneers’ history, behind only Jimmie Giles’ 4,300. Brate’s total tops every Bucs tight end since Giles’ tenure, which ended in 1986. Although 6-foot-5 pass catcher has played a complementary role behind Mike Evans (and often others) throughout his time in Tampa Bay.
Could The Green Bay Packers Target Cameron Brate?
Even though it wouldn’t be labeled as a “sexy” signing, Cameron Brate would fit in with the Packers’ offense well. Brate can has been a solid pass-blocker throughout his career. Something Green Bay will need at the position if Marcedes Lewis does not return. He’ll also likely be very affordable for any team who . Brate is an older player with playoff and Super Bowl experience. He knows what it takes to win and can bring a winning mentality to the team.
