The Green Bay Packers will need a lot of help to make the playoffs in 2022. Winning the rest of the games on their schedule will be the number one priority. However, there will be a few teams that the Packers will need to lose if they want that elusive seventh seed. The Seattle Seahawks is one of those teams. Tonight the Seahawks lost to the 49ers on Thursday Night Football 21-13. That loss helped Green Bay.
Packers’ Updated Playoff Odds After Seahawks’ Loss
After the Seahawks lost to the 49ers, the Packers playoff chances drastically increase. According to the New York Times’ playoff simulator, if the Green Bay Packers win out they have a 69% chance to make the playoffs. There will be two more games this weekend (outside of Green Bay’s own game) that will impact their playoff chances in week 15.
NFL Week 15 Game No. 1: New York Giants (7-5-1) At Washington Commanders (7-5-1)
This is a game Green Bay just can’t afford a tie. The last time the Commanders and Giants met (in week 13) it ended in a 20-20 tie. If Green Bay is going to catch one of these teams, one team needs to lose in NFL Week 15. Which one should Packers fans want to lose? I would say the New York Giants as their remaining schedule is a tad tougher than the Commanders’. New York’s final three opponents after they face the Commanders are the Vikings (10-3), Colts (4-8-1), and the Eagles (12-1). The Commanders’ final three games after they play the Giants are the 49ers (9-4), Browns (5-8), and Cowboys (10-3). Either way, both teams have a tough finish to the season. As a result, Green Bay needs one of these teams to lose out the rest of the way. Hopefully, that starts this week.
NFL Week 15 Game No. 2: Detroit Lions (6-7) At New York Jets (7-6)
With Detroit’s upset win over the Minnesota Vikings, Green Bay will subsequently need Detroit to lose a few games between now and the end of the season. The Lions won the first head-to-head matchup vs. the Packers back in Week 9. The Packers and Lions will play each other again in the final week of the season, but a Lions loss between now and then would do the Packers some good.
Don’t look now, but Green Bay has a real chance to make some noise in the playoff race if week 15 falls their way.
