The Green Bay Packers are scouting safeties for the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft and Tyler Nubin from Minnesota is one of those names that they can select with the 25th overall pick in the draft. With free agency set to begin next week, the Packers will be looking at names like Xavier McKinney and Justin Simmons on the market.
Green Bay had three safeties that were on the roster last season and are now free agents and they will probably not re-signed and that includes Darnell Savage and Jonathan Owens. Nubin is one of the best safety prospects in this year’s NFL Draft.
The Packers will need to get a couple of new safeties onto the roster for the 2024 season. Even if Green Bay were to sign a stud like Simmons or McKinney onto its roster next week, it feels like they still need to draft another one whether it is in the first round or the later rounds.
They will have 11 selections in the 2024 NFL Draft. Running back, safety, cornerback, and offensive lineman are their top needs. Green Bay will not go with a running back in the first round because none of them are predicted to go in the first round.
Safety, cornerback, or offensive lineman in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft feels possible. Tyler Nubin is a very talented prospect at the safety position.
Tyler Nubin’s Stats Last Season with the Minnesota Golden Gophers and If He Is Available on the Board With the 25th Overall Pick the Green Bay Packers Need to Take Him
Nubin played at Minnesota for five seasons. He recorded 53 total tackles, one sack, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, recorded five interceptions, and also had four pass deflections. This is the kind of safety that Green Bay can draft and develop. This is the theme that general manager Brian Gutekunst has used over the years.
Tyler Nubin is 6’2″ and weighs 210 lbs. He is 22 years old and has started many games with Minnesota at the college level.
Some of his strengths according to nfldraftbuzz.com are as follows:
“Boasts a strong, proportional frame ideal for the safety role, complemented by a physical playstyle that doesn’t shy away from contact. Displays exceptional explosiveness and closing speed, crucial for downhill support and disrupting passing lanes.”
Some of his weaknesses are:
“Lacks elite explosiveness and long speed, which can limit range and recovery speed in certain situations. Shows less fluidity and speed in transitions due to a high-hipped frame, which can challenge him in space against agile receivers.”
Tyler Nubin is going to be a name that comes up in NFL Mock Drafts for the Green Bay Packers between now and the NFL Draft. No matter what happens in free agency next week and other weeks beforehand, the Packers should take the approach of signing one in free agency and drafting another one in the 2024 NFL Draft.
