A week of waiting finally came to an end on Saturday when the Green Bay Packers announced that they had agreed to terms of a contract extension with head coach Matt LaFleur. During the days that preceded the report, fans and media members wondered if the two sides, who had stated their mutual desire to move forward together, would actually come to an agreement.
As fans and reporters waited, many wondered what points were holding up the negotiations. Some wondered if changes on LaFleur’s staff would be a condition of the new contract. And now that it is done, many fans, and even former players, are already hoping that some of LaFleur’s assistant coaches will be replaced.
Former Green Bay Packers Pro Bowler TJ Lang wants James Campen back to coach the offensive line

Indeed, throughout the course of this past season (and previous seasons), there has been a great deal of criticism for multiple coaches on the Packers’ staff, namely special teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia, offensive coordinator Adam Stenovich, and offensive line coach Luke Butkus.
Now that LaFleur’s future in Green Bay is decided, one former player, two-time Pro Bowl offensive lineman TJ Lang, would like to see the Packers bring back their old offensive line coach, James Campen.
Right move by GB. MLF is a hell of a coach. Bring back James Campen to toughen up that OL a bit. https://t.co/ggPGdTt3Ln

As one can see from the post above, Lang wants Campen brought in so that he can toughen up the offensive line. Late in the season, many fans were critical of the line, who did nothing to retaliate when quarterback Jordan Love was knocked out of Green Bay’s Week 16 loss with a concussion.
In the weeks that have followed, multiple former Packers linemen, including David Bakhtiari and Lang, have stated on social media that such an incident would not have flown during their days.
And, indeed, the offensive line did collapse late in the year and late in the Wild Card loss against Chicago. Perhaps brining Campen back, who coached in Green Bay 2004-2018 (which included a decade-long run as the offensive line coach), would be a step in the right direction.
Campen last coached for the Carolina Panthers in 2023 and lives in Suamico, Wisconsin.
