The Green Bay Packers showed the NFL world that a rebuild won’t be necessary. In their first season without Aaron Rodgers, the Packers managed to fight their way to the divisional round of the playoffs. Jordan Love has shown that he has potential to be the third franchise quarterback in a row for the team.
By season’s end, the offense was firing on all cylinders, and other teams noticed. Today it was reported that one coach will be leaving the team to become the offensive coordinator elsewhere.
The Green Bay Packers Lose Coach To Big Ten Team; Becomes Offensive Coordinator
According to David Eickholt of 24/7 Sports:
The long-awaited saga has finally come to a conclusion. On Sunday, sources indicated to HawkeyeInsider that former Western Michigan head coach Tim Lester will be Brian Ferentz’s successor and take over as Iowa’s offensive coordinator.
Lester and Ferentz had been communicating for the past week and there was a strong belief in the foundation that they could achieve with their partnership. Despite being the head coach at Western Michigan, Lester was the primary play caller.
The belief is that Lester has a modern understanding of the way football is being played, but respects the way that Kirk Ferentz wants to run his football team.
Lester also sees a big picture, which is something that Ferentz values. The former Bronco head coach has experience as an offensive coordinator and as a head coach.
Prior to taking the head coaching position at Western Michigan, Lester was the quarterbacks coach at Purdue in 2016, mentoring sophomore signal-caller David Blough to 25 touchdown passes and 3,352 yards, averaging more than 279 yards passing per game.
The Packers Will Need To Replace Lester As An Analyst
The former Western Michigan head coach worked as an analyst for the Green Bay Packers in 2023
In Green Bay, Lester assisted with defense, but his specialty is on offense. He was a prolific college quarterback at Western Michigan, and his coaching background involves coordinating offenses and overseeing quarterbacks.
Several changes are being made on the Packers’ defense. Earlier this week, Joe Barry was fired from his position as the defensive coordinator, and the search for his replacement is in full swing.
Green Bay’s defense may look a lot different next year from top to bottom when it comes to the coaching staff.
