The Green Bay Packers are going to need to pick multiple tight ends in the 2023 NFL Draft. Currently, they have Josiah Deguara and Tyler Davis on their roster, neither of whom instills much confidence in the position heading into the season. Deguara does have value as an H-back, but is not a traditional tight end. Davis has value as a special teams contributor, but has not played well as a traditional tight end either. There are some analysts, such as Mel Kiper, who believe that the Packers may select a tight end as early as the first round. This is a very deep tight end class, however, and there can be great value in the later rounds too.
The Green Bay Packers Could Take Zack Kuntz on Day 3 of the NFL Draft
In a recent article published by The Athletic, Packers insider Matt Schneidman identified the best offensive players at each position that Green Bay could draft on day three of the 2023 NFL Draft. He suggested that Zack Kuntz of Old Dominion is the best tight end that the Packers could draft on the third and final day of the draft:
“Gutekunst has highlighted the strength of this year’s tight end class multiple times, so don’t be surprised if he doubles down at the position. Kuntz was one of five prospects and the only tight end at this year’s combine to register a perfect 10 RAS (relative athletic score). That alone might be enough to warrant him being a late-round flier, even if his blocking needs work to carve out any sort of role in LaFleur’s offense.”
For reference, here are Kuntz’s RAS scores:
Zack Kuntz is a TE prospect in the 2023 draft class. He scored a 10.00 RAS out of a possible 10.00. This ranked 1 out of 1054 TE from 1987 to 2023. #Correction, but didn't knock him out of the top spot.https://t.co/mpZ9CLNDkc #RAS pic.twitter.com/vIUzepU1VE

The knock on Kuntz is that he is far from a finished product. The Packers would be wise to draft him if he is available on day three, but should not rely on him to be a day one impact player. As seen by his RAS scores, he certainly has the athletic ability to make it as a NFL player. Green Bay, though, will need more than one other tight end this offseason to ensure that Kuntz has the time to develop before he is thrown into a roll he is not ready for. Doing this, though, would pay huge dividends at the tight end position in the not-so-distant future.
