The Green Bay Packers hosted free-agent hybrid safety Isaiah Simmons. He is a former first-round pick who has spent time with both the Cardinals and Giants.
It is worth noting he’s played 370 snaps on special teams since joining the Giants in 2023. He could play multiple roles within the Packer’s defense.
Simmons Play Style and His Fit in Green Bay

Isaiah Simmons is a dynamic and versatile player who could serve as the missing link to strengthen their linebacker depth chart before the 2025 NFL Draft. He aligns perfectly with Jeff Hafley’s aggressive approach to the defensive front.
Players like linebacker De’Vondre Campbell and cornerback Rasul Douglas were brought in as depth options for the Packers but ended up performing exceptionally well. I’m not saying Simmons will become a standout, but it can be worth taking a chance, especially when the investment is minimal.
This Move Could Benefit Both Simmons and the Packers
Defensive Coordinator Jeff Hafley could greatly benefit from having a player like Simmons as a subpackage linebacker, capable of blitzing and covering alongside Quay Walker and Edgerrin Cooper. Previously, the team struggled defensively in the middle when Edge was not on the field.
This would be a solid acquisition to strengthen the linebacker rotation and enhance special teams. Bringing in Simmons would provide the Packers with valuable flexibility during the draft and bolster the depth of their roster.
