Aaron Rodgers is not the only Green Bay Packers star whose career in the green and gold is a mystery. When the season concluded, Allen Lazard said he felt that he had played his last game as a Packer. However recent reports suggest that he could be re-signed. However, Zack Rosenblatt of “The Athletic” reported that he’s hearing that Allen Lazard could follow Aaron Rodgers if he is traded to the Jets.
Allen Lazard’s Relationship with the Green Bay Packers
Last offseason Allen Lazard was hoping for a long-term contract from the Packers. Unfortunately, they could not agree on terms and he played in 2022 on an RFA tender. Lazard had a career year with 60 receptions, 788 yards and six touchdowns. Lazard will hit the open market and is free to sign with any team. Obviously, the Green Bay Packers could offer him a contract, but they may be content with their group of young wide outs.
Why the Jets Make Sense
The Jets would make sense for Lazard for a few reasons if Aaron Rodgers were traded there. First and foremost, he would have familiarity with the quarterback position. A few weeks ago Lazard was praising Rodgers and saying he was the best to ever do it. It would make sense for him to want to continue playing with him.
Secondly, The Jets could be looking to add a veteran wideout. They are expected to move on from Corey Davis. Davis has not been the star he was expected to be coming out of college and could be on his way to his third team. Lazard is coming off of a career year and could be a valuable piece for the Jets.
Lastly, Nathaniel Hackett being the offensive coordinator would put Lazard in an offense he knows he an succeed in. If Rodgers were to be shipped to the New York Jets, Allen Lazard has plenty of reasons to follow him, knowing the benefits it has for him.
