The Green Bay Packers are looking to compete for a Super Bowl just one full season after trading away Aaron Rodgers. Green Bay performed like one of the hottest teams in the league during the latter half of the 2023 season and are trying to continue that success into 2024.
Their defense got a major overhaul this off-season with both coaching and player changes. Now there is one more on the way.
The Green Bay Packers Add Massive Linebacker For Defense
According to NFL Insider Aaron Wilson:
Packers are signing linebacker Chris Russell of Aggie Football to a contract today following a successful workout, his agent Kimberly Williams @jazzmama34told @KPRC2.

Inside/middle linebacker prospect who flashes impressive pursuit ability and big-play acumen. Thickly-built prospect with good size as a high school senior. Frame may be on the limited side for bulk addition, but already close to college-ready size. Likely scheme-versatile in college. Flies around the field against the run.
Shows sideline-to-sideline pursuit ability. Packs enough strength and hand-fighting ability to get through single blocks en route to the ball. Provides the big hit when it’s there. Can improve balance and body control, particularly when dropping into coverage. Looks a bit mechanical in space when defending the pass.
Occasionally sacrifices tackling technique to go for the big hit. Can be drawn into overpursuit. High-motor, physical middle-of-the-defense linebacker with the size, on-field athleticism, and playing style to eventually succeed as a Power 5 starter.
It will be interesting to see what kind of role Russell can carve out in this Packers’ defense. Their linebackers currently feature:
