The Green Bay Packers have had a relatively healthy 2023 pre-season. The team lost tight end Tyler Davis for the season after he tore his ACL against the Cincinnati Bengals. Other than that, the Packers have been relatively healthy when it comes to long-term injuries. However, there is one injury a Packers veteran is dealing with that is having an impact beyond just the initial diagnosis.
Green Bay Packers’ Tarvarius Moore Injury Came At The Worst Time
The Green Bay Packers signed Tarvarius Moore to a one-year deal in the offseason. He spent the last four seasons as a member of the San Francisco 49ers. Moore is competing with Rudy Ford and Jonathan Owens for playing time this season. Matt LaFleur spoke on Moore’s injury last week.
“It’s more day to day,” said LaFleur.
Moore could still end up being a big part of the Packers’ defense, however, he is going to need to overcome more obstacles. Moore injured his knee during the second preseason game against the New England Patriots and missed the subsequent week of practice, as well as the matchup with the Seattle Seahawks.
Since the injury, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur has all but handed the starting job to Rudy Ford. It’s not his just yet, but it’s safe to say it’s locked up if the seventh-year veteran has a good game on Saturday against the Seahawks.
“He’s done a nice job,” LaFleur told reporters on Thursday. “I think he’s going out there and executing his responsibility and he’s playing physical. [He is] trusting in what he’s seeing and playing fast, and he’s done a really nice job. Communication is a big part of that position – making sure that everybody’s on the same page. And I think he’s handled that pretty well. So hopefully, he can put together another good practice today and then go out there and compete in the game at a high level.”
Moore’s speed, athleticism, and special teams abilities should warrant him a spot on the 53-man roster but his time as a starting safety on the team may be delayed a while. Last season the Packers had inconsistent safety play, addressing that position in 2023 will be crucial for the success of the defense.
