The Green Bay Packers are fresh off of a total disappointment in the playoffs against the Chicago Bears in the Wild Card round.
After taking a 21-3 lead into halftime, the game appeared to be well in hand for the Packers. Unfortunately, the team was unable to close out the win. Instead, they suffered one of the worst collapses in recent NFL history to end their season.
Despite the crushing loss, Green Bay has decided to keep the majority of its coaching staff. Matt LaFleur received a new contract decision, as did general manager Brian Gutekunst. Entering the offseason, there is a major sense of urgency surrounding the team.
One situation to keep a close eye on is regarding the future of backup quarterback Malik Willis. He is widely expected to be signed by a team in free agency to compete for a starting job. That would leave the Packers looking for a new backup behind Jordan Love.
An interesting option has been suggested for the team heading into the offseason.
Green Bay Packers Connected to Former No. 3 Overall Quarterback

Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox has suggested that Trey Lance could be an option to watch for the Packers.
“Expect quarterbacks like Trey Lance and Gardner Minshew to interest the Packers as Love’s next understudy,” he wrote.
Lance would be a very intriguing pickup for Green Bay. He is exactly the kind of player that the Packers have targeted in the past. In fact, he would come in with a similar situation to how Willis was acquired.
Since being drafted with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, Lance’s career has not gone close to according to plan. He has played in just 16 regular season games in the NFL, completing 54 percent of his pass attempts for 1,289 yards, five touchdowns, and five interceptions, while also running for 361 yards and another score.
Joining Green Bay would give Lance a fresh start. He would also be able to work with an elite quarterback coach in LaFleur. That could help him rejuvenate his career.
It’s just an idea at this point in time. However, assuming the Packers do indeed end up looking for a new backup quarterback, Lance would be a name worth keeping an eye on.
