The Green Bay Packers are riding has high as they have all season long after their impressive Thanksgiving victory over the Detroit Lions. The Packers showed they came to play from the very first drive of the game and never looked back.
The Packers sprung out to a 23-6 halftime lead and led 29-14 late in the fourth-quarter. 29-22 was the final score after a garbage time touchdown, however, the game wasn’t nearly that close. The Packers’ defense has been up and down this season, but if the Packers want to move on from Joe Barry there is certainly an option.
The Green Bay Packers Could Target Defensive Coordinator Jack Del Rio After Recent Report
According to NBC’s Pro Football Talk:
A blowout loss to the Cowboys on Thanksgiving was the last straw for Commanders defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio.
Del Rio was fired today, according to multiple reports. Also reportedly fired was defensive backs coach Brent Vieselmeyer.
Del Rio is in his fourth year as the defensive coordinator in Washington, and he has often faced criticism, but head coach Ron Rivera has stood by him in the past. Now Rivera, whose own job is in peril, has decided to pull the plug. Rivera is himself a former defensive coordinator and will likely handle the defensive play calling himself for the rest of the season.
The 60-year-old Del Rio previously had three seasons as head coach of the Raiders and nine seasons as head coach of the Jaguars. He has also been a defensive coordinator in Carolina and in Denver.
Would The Packers Be Interested In Jack Del Rio?
Joe Barry come under scrutiny for years now, and this season has been no different. However, this season is a mixed bag. On one hand, the Packers rush defense has struggled mightily at times. Currently they rank 21st overall in that category. They also rank 24th in the league in yards allowed per carry (4.4).
However, on the other hand, the Packers haven’t allowed more than 24 points in a contest since since September 28th. They rank in the top ten in points allowed per game (20.4). It would be surprising if the Packers moved on from Barry mid-season, however, Del Rio may be a real option this off-season if the Packers decide to move on from Joe Barry.

Nice pipe dream, but it won’t happen if estimated from LaFluer’s past. I speculated with Barry and Pettine being kept past their expiration dates, that they knew something about the head coach or it was a flaw. But, I believe that MLF is fearful of being upstaged by a subordinate, especially when Murphy’s upcoming retirement and it will be a crap shoot at best. It makes sense that he is going to kick the can down the road rather than pick his potential replacement. Everyone might accept that we are stuck with poor decisions and a losing year. Good thing is Packers gear will be cheaper.
