The Green Bay Packers are busy preparing for the NFL Draft. Drafting players is one of the most challenging things a front office has to do. It isn’t a perfect science. Sometimes draft picks don’t pan out. However, fans and analysts are always quick to point out the missed picks by general managers when evaluating draft performances. A recent stat shows how good the Green Bay Packers have drafted in the past five years.

Green Bay Packers NFL Draft Success
Warren Sharp compiled a list of total snaps played in the past five years by players a team drafted themselves. The Packers ranked in the top ten coming at number eight in the NFL. Players drafted by the team have played a total of 78,925 snaps in the past five years. What this means is that the Packers are drafting talent and they are making it onto the field. So many teams draft players who never see the field for them for one reason or another. The Packers seem to be able to find value in all rounds of the draft.

Other Teams At The Top (And A Laughstock At The Bottom)
The top team by a pretty wide margin is the Dallas Cowboys followed by NFC North rival Minnesota. The rest of the top ten are all fairly bunched together but the more interesting part of this list is at the bottom. The teams at the bottom are the ones you would think but the worst team on this list is the Las Vegas Raiders, and it isn’t close. The second-worst team on the list is the New York Jets who only have 47,244 snaps played by players they drafted. Then comes the Raiders with only 11,904. That is downright malpractice by the front office.
Obviously, no one can be perfect in the draft but the Green Bay Packers have been able to find talent in the NFL draft over the past five years. This year, nailing the draft is even more important. There are some big holes on the roster and the team is looking to build up the young talent. GM Brian Gutekunst and the front office will have some tough decisions to make but they have proven they can find the players that make it onto the field.

Your data analysis sucks. This says less about what the Packers are doing now, and more about what they did 5 years ago. Part of what that stat shows is your aging roster, the other part is all of the bad extensions from more recent drafts that haven’tpanned out.
Sure, they can win in a bad nfc central, but outside of those six games they’re a 500 team more years than not. Also, ask yourself this, how many of the player/snaps from those past 5 years are on your roster for next year? 5 years of cap mismanagement, and an ability to draft little more than replacement level players is about to come home to roost.
1 and 5 in the division comung up this year. Get ready. It’s going to be funny.
