The Green Bay Packers have signed free agent safety Dallin Leavitt. The move was announced by Mark Murphy and posted on the Packers’ Twitter account.

Per the team, Leavitt will wear jersey number 6 for Green Bay.
Dallin Leavitt Fills a Need on Special Teams
One of the biggest areas of focus on improving the team this offseason was a focus on special teams. The Green Bay Packers began by hiring away the Los Vegas Raiders interim head coach and special teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia. The Packers also addressed special teams in the draft, adding several players in the later rounds that are expected to be immediate upgrades to the unit.
Now the Packers have added on Bisaccia’s best special teams players from last season. Dallin Leavitt played 78% of the special teams snaps last season for the Raiders. Last season, he led the Raiders’ special teams unit with 12 tackles, a career-high.
Leavitt also made his first career start at safety last season. Overall, Leavitt had 35 total tackles and two passes defended. He also recovered two fumbles while playing in 16 games.
As a defender, Leavitt was targeted 27 times and gave up 17 receptions (63%). Opposing quarterbacks had a 93.9 passer rating when targeting him. For reference, here are the passer ratings opposing quarterbacks had when targeting Packers’ safeties in 2021:
- Adrian Amos: 101.4
- Darnell Savage: 117.4
- Vernon Scott: Played no defensive snaps
- Henry Black: 117.3
Now, the Packers did draft Tariq Carpenter, a safety, in the NFL Draft. However, he is expected to make the move to inside linebacker due to his size. While Amos and Savage will eat up most of the defensive snaps at safety, it will not be surprising if Leavitt is able to achieve a backup role at that position.
