Green Bay Packers wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks was a fifth-round pick out of the University of Virginia in the 2023 NFL Draft. He has played in the first five games of the 2023 season for Green Bay. Wicks has caught seven passes for 95 yards receiving and one touchdown. He is averaging 13.6 yards per reception.

Dontayvion Wicks is fourth on the team in targets with 14 targets. Only Luke Musgrave (23), Romeo Doubs (37), and Jayden Reed (27) have more than him this season. Wicks’s longest reception this season was 32 yards. He is another home run threat on this roster, just like Christian Watson is. Should Dontayvion Wicks see more targets, or should it be someone else?
Green Bay Packers Wide Receiver Dontayvion Wicks Should See the Field More, But the one who needs more targets is actually Christian Watson
Wicks is a very nice depth piece to have on the Packers roster in case anyone gets hurt, like Christian Watson did earlier this season with a hamstring injury. Watson missed the first three games, and Dontayvion Wicks showed some signs of potential in this league with his play. He doesn’t really drop passes like other fellow rookie Jayden Reed does.
Christian Watson is the one who needs more targets. In two games played, he only has 11 targets this season. That is 5.5 targets per game only and quarterback Jordan Love needs to target him more moving forward after the bye week. Watson has caught five passes for 116 yards receiving and one touchdown in two games and is averaging 23.2 yards per reception.
His longest reception this season was 77 yards this past Monday night against the Las Vegas Raiders on the road. Watson is the most talented wide receiver on this football team. This is a young receiving core that needs to time to grow.
There is no doubt that Romeo Doubs and Christian Watson are the two best wide receivers on this football team. Doubs has caught 21 passes for 228 yards and three touchdowns this year and has averaged 10.9 yards per reception.
After those two, you can flip-flip Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks. Reed has caught 13 passes for 210 yards receiving and two touchdowns so far this season for the Green Bay Packers. He is averaging 16.2 yards per reception.
As for rookie tight end Luke Musgrave, he has caught 18 passes for 159 yards receiving and zero touchdowns. Musgrave is averaging 8.8 yards per catch.
Wicks, for now, is better off as the fourth wide receiver for now on Green Bay’s roster. If another injury occurs later on this season for the football team, then expect him to step up into a bigger role. None of this production will matter if quarterback Jordan Love continues to struggle.
