The Green Bay Packers had their worst nightmare happen on Friday night during the 34-29 loss in Brazil against the Philadelphia Eagles when quarterback Jordan Love suffered a knee injury. Love will be out for the next three weeks with a sprained MCL and luckily it was nothing worse.
With Malik Willis the only other quarterback on the roster, some feel like they should reach out to free agent Ryan Tannehill. Sean Clifford is on the Packers practice squad and they also cut rookie quarterback Michael Pratt before the start of the 2024 season.
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero Reported On Sunday That the Green Bay Packers Didn’t Reach Out To Ryan Tannehill
There was a lot of speculation as to whether or not the Packers reached out to the former Tennessee Titans quarterback over the weekend after the Jordan Love injury. Well, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero said on Twitter about the Packers and Tannehill:
“The Packers have not reached out and are not expected to pursue any veteran quarterbacks, including Ryan Tannehill, per sources. The team expects Jordan Love back on the sooner end of the initial 3-6 week timeline and are focused on preparing Malik Willis and Sean Clifford.”
It will be interesting to see how the Green Bay Packers survive without Jordan Love. Ryan Tannehill was the Tennessee Titans’ starting quarterback for the start of last year. Willis used to back Tannehill in Tennessee.
In eight games started with the Titans last season, Ryan Tannehill completed 64.8% of his passes for 1,616 yards, four touchdowns, and seven interceptions. He also rushed for 74 yards on 17 carries and one touchdown, along with averaging 4.4 yards per carry. Tannehill is 36 years old and it is still surprising he is not signed anywhere yet.
Upcoming Schedule
There is no doubt that Ryan Tannehill is an upgrade over Malik Willis and Sean Clifford. However, it will be interesting to see how the Packers play over the next few weeks without Jordan Love. They will face the Indianapolis Colts this week. Green Bay will face the Tennessee Titans and the Minnesota Vikings in the following two weeks.
After the next three games, maybe the Packers may get Jordan Love back. They can’t be 0-4 before Love returns. That would be an ultimate nightmare for the Green Bay Packers and it is a mistake that they didn’t reach out to Ryan Tannehill.
