With Green Bay Packers rookie camp having finished up, the team is approaching OTAs in just a few weeks. The 2025 NFL Draft gave the team plenty of opportunities to address positions of need, with new receivers, offensive linemen, and more entering the fold. The question is, what positions of need still exist as the Packers’ biggest needs right now?
#1 – Green Bay Packers Need More Edge Rushers, Says ESPN
The Green Bay Packers wowed fans by addressing one of the team’s biggest areas of need in wide receiver. First round pass catcher Matthew Golden is already a fan favorite in Green Bay. Third-rounder Savion Williams is another talented receiver. Green Bay spent its second round pick on offensive tackle Anthony Melton, meaning the team spent Day 1 and Day 2 of the draft exclusively on offense.

Defensively, there are several areas that could use additions. ESPN Aaron Schatz believes that the biggest hole on the 2025-26 roster is pass rusher.
Rashan Gary was the only Packers edge rusher with at least five sacks last season. Lukas Van Ness, the team’s 2023 first-round pick, has been a disappointment — he’s penciled in as a starter despite having only seven sacks in his first two seasons.
Neither Kingsley Enagbare nor Brenton Cox Jr. has much upside, but they combined for 9.5 sacks last season. Fourth-round rookie Barryn Sorrell did not fare well in our SackSEER projections, with a projection of only eight sacks over five seasons.
Sorrell was a player who improved his pressure rate every single year of his college career, but he seems an unlikely candidate to give Gary a high-level running-mate. 5th-round selection Colin Oliver has been described as more of a “situational pass rusher” as opposed to a true sack threat.
In terms of potential free agent additions, there are a handful of veterans still available. Big names include Von Miller and Matthew Judon, with former Packers Preston Smith and Za’Darius Smith also unsigned.

#2 – Cornerback… Maybe?
The biggest internal drama for the Green Bay Packers in the offseason has, and continues to be, the Jaire Alexander situation. The veteran corner has still not been dealt after rumors that he was on the trade block emerged months ago. Mock drafts frequently had the Packers adding to the defensive backfield in the first round.
Yet Alexander has remained with the team, and it seems more and more likely that a way for him to stay in Green Bay will be found. A contract re-structure is certainly an option.

The Packers did spend their final draft selection on a defensive back in Tulane’s Micah Robinson, but teams rarely replace multi-time Pro-Bowlers with rookie 7th-round picks. Interestingly, Robinson is the third corner to be drafted in the 7th round by the team in the last three years, with Kalen King (2024) and Carrington Valentine (2023) being the other two.
Valentine played nearly 700 snaps as a rookie and another 547 last season, but King spent his rookie season on the practice squad. Robinson played one season at Tulane after spending four seasons at FCS Furman.
#3 – Interior Defensive Line
After the Philadelphia Eagles won the Super Bowl by dominating the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball, teams around the NFL have been beefing up in the trenches. The Packers could use some help on the defensive side specifically.

After losing a big-time run-stopper in TJ Slaton, the team’s interior depth leaves a lot to be desired. Behind Kenny Clark and Devonte Wyatt, the current depth chart features rookie 6th-round pick Warren Brinson, 2023 draft pick Colby Wooden, who has just 37 career tackles, and fellow 2023 selection Karl Brooks. Brooks has the most promise of the bunch, with 7.5 career sacks, but a veteran addition could make a lot of sense here.
