A lot of Green Bay Packers fans can exhale with the news of signing quarterback Jordan Love to a contract extension on Friday night. With Love back, he is officially back on the practice field. Jordan Love was not the only player this offseason to receive a new contract extension.
Defensive tackle Kenny Clark also signed a new contract extension this offseason. The Green Bay Packers locked up two of the most important players on the roster. The Green Bay Packers will now not have to worry about the noise of Love and Clark getting new contracts.
In the future, there will be other players on the Green Bay Packers who will get new contracts at some point. The good news is that they will wait until after this year to hand out new contracts to other players. The Packers were one of the youngest teams in the NFL a season ago.
Lombardiavenue.com Writer Eric Fischer Thinks That Green Bay Packers Wide Receiver Romeo Doubs Should Be Next To Get a Contract Extension
At some point, Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst will have to decide which wide receivers on the roster to give long-term contracts and which ones not to. Lombardiavenue.com writer Eric Fischer thinks that wide receiver Romeo Doubs should be the next player to get a contract extension.
Doubs will not be eligible to receive a new contract until after the 2024 season. Fischer said about how Doubs should be one of the next players on the roster to get a contract extension:
“Now that Green Bay has QB1 locked up, the next task is keeping his top target happy and rewarding him with a new deal. Love thrived with the plethora of young talent at the skill positions, particularly the wide receiver group.
Doubs is eligible for a contract extension at the end of this season. Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks can’t sign new deals until the end of 2025.
Christian Watson may have higher upside, when he’s healthy, but sometimes a player’s best ability is availability. That leaves Doubs, aka Mr. Reliable. Doubs certainly has been available, playing in all 17 games in 2023, finishing tied for the team lead in touchdowns (8) and second in receiving yards (674). He also starred in the playoff win against Dallas, hauling in six catches for 151 yards and a touchdown.
He isn’t flashy but gets the job done—a James Jones 2.0, if you will (3.0 if you count James Jones Hoodie SZN separately). Of Doubs’ 59 catches in 2023, 41 were for first downs, per Pro Football Reference.
Brett Favre had Sterling Sharpe and Donald Driver. Aaron Rodgers had Jordy Nelson and Davante Adams. Now, Love has Doubs.”
Romeo Doubs was tied with Jayden Reed for the most touchdowns on the team last season. Doubs and Reed might have the best chance to go over 1,000 yards receiving this season for the Green Bay Packers. Romeo Doubs is 24 and was a fourth-round selection out of Nevada in the 2022 NFL Draft. He is entering his third NFL season. Doubs had great chemistry last season with quarterback Jordan Love.
He was not mentioned in any trade rumors this offseason. Christian Watson was mentioned in several trade rumors. Doubs would be the best bet to pay first at the wide receiver position. Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks will need new deals eventually, but they don’t have to worry about that now.
