The Green Bay Packers recently announced that they had agreed to a contract extension with head coach Matt LaFleur. Prior to that announcement, many fans and media members wondered if the time had come for the Packers and LaFleur to part ways following a second consecutive Wild Card round loss in the NFL Playoffs.
The fact that this year’s defeat came at the hands of the Chicago Bears only intensified the speculation.
However, it appears that LaFleur’s standing within the organization was never in question and the prolonged negotiations had nothing to do with his job security.
That being said, there are others, specifically players, whose futures with the Packers are not so certain. And one of these is wide receiver Romeo Doubs.
Green Bay Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs is glad Matt LaFleur is staying, wants to stay too

After four seasons in Green Bay, Doubs is going to become an unrestricted free agent as his rookie contract will expire. There is a great deal of speculation that the Packers will not be able to afford to bring him back, but if he had it his way, he would be back in Green Bay, as he told Kay Adams today:

“I disagree with [people who wanted LaFleur fired]. And the main reason for that is because Matt is one of the best coaches in the league. Just based on the situation alone and what he had to deal with, I do not fault them for keeping him there. Again, he’s one of the top coaches in the league.”
And when asked about his own future, with rumors abounding that he will not be brought back, Doubs said, “I would love to be a Green Bay Packer. But I am aware of this business. I understand how things go.”
Doubs had the best season of his career in 2025, hauling in 55 catches for 724 yards and six touchdowns. He led all Green Bay pass catches in receptions, receiving yards, targets, and was tied for the lead in touchdown receptions.
