After Robert Saleh was fired by the New York Jets following their 2-3 start to the season, Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur was quick to scoop him up and added him to his own coaching staff. Saleh, a defensive minded coach, served as an offensive assistant, giving LaFleur ideas of how defenses would try to attack his offense.
Despite the fact that he was fired, Saleh was expected to be one of the hottest names on the defensive coordinator market this offseason. And while he has been linked to the San Francisco 49ers open position, he also has interviewed to be the next head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
And for a while, it looked like he might have been one of the favorites to land the job. Until Thursday.
The Jacksonville Jaguars, Trent Baalke, Liam Coen, and an Unprecedented Situation

The favorite for the Jaguars head coaching job is Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Liam Coen. Yesterday, Wednesday, he informed Jacksonville that he was pulling his name out of consideration for the position.
Hours later, the Jaguars fired general manager Trent Baalke. Meanwhile, Coen and the Bucs reached a verbal agreement on a contract extension that would make him the highest-paid offensive coordinator in the NFL.
Today, Thursday, however, Coen put his name back into consideration for the Jaguars head coaching job. Many believe that it is because of Baalke’s firing, though it also could be because they upped their salary offer.
Now, Coen is expected to be the next head coach in Jacksonville.
And Saleh is still looking for a job.
