The Green Bay Packers hired Robert Saleh as an offensive consultant after he was fired by the New York Jets last October, but he might not stay with the team for long.
Saleh reportedly had interviews with the Dallas Cowboys and the Jacksonville Jaguars for their head coaching vacancies and with the San Francisco 49ers for their defensive coordinator opening. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the 45-year-old coach is on Jacksonville’s shortlist because he will have a second interview later this week.
Saleh has worked with the Jacksonville Jaguars, as he was their linebackers coach from 2014 to 2016 before he went to the San Francisco 49ers to become their defensive coordinator from 2017 to 2020.
He and head coach Matt LaFleur have a tight relationship, as LaFleur was the best man at Saleh’s wedding. They briefly worked together in the Houston Texans coaching staff from 2008 to 2009, with Saleh as a defensive quality control/assistant linebackers coach and LaFleur as an offensive assistant.
Green Bay Packers coordinators get interviews from rival teams
Robert Saleh is not the only coach who might leave the Green Bay Packers this offseason, as defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley and offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich were recently interviewed by the New York Jets and the Chicago Bears, respectively.
The Chicago Bears hired Ben Johnson as their new head coach, so Stenavich will likely return in Green Bay. Hafley is facing stiff competition from Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn for the head coaching job in New York.
Stenavich has been with the Green Bay Packers since 2019, while Hafley did well in his first year as part of LaFleur’s staff.
